Dubrovnik - a holiday in photos

28/9/2014

I don't usually blog about subjects other than writing, but I thought I'd share some of my recent holiday photography. Is that something you'd be interested in? What did you say? Speak up at the back there! Oh... there's no one at the back there...

Aaaaanyway, I've just returned from a splendid break in Dubrovnik, Croatia. I usually take my camera with me everywhere I go but sometimes I find it's just not practical to carry about a bulky SLR camera with interchangeable lenses. Hence, just before the holiday, I invested in a new compact zoom camera. The picture quality can never compete with a digital SLR camera but I'm pleased with the results.

I've made the pictures clickable so you can see them in more detail if you wish. Thanks for taking a look.

The view from the apartment was breathtaking. This picture of the city's Old Town was taken the night after a thunderstorm; the light was crystal clear.

I witnessed several stunning sunsets from the apartment's terrace. Here's a shot just as the sun's gone down and the lights of the Old Town have started twinkling. The two white dots on the horizon are a passing ship (left) and an island's lighthouse (just off-centre).

In fact, cats were pretty much everywhere!

Just to prove I was there...

Taken during a walk along the city walls, which afforded stunning views of the Old Town and out to sea.

The many narrow alleyways and steps in the Old Town reminded me very much of Venice. Maureen goes to Dubrovnik?!

Maureen goes to Venice - free download

This weekend, readers can download 'Maureen goes to Venice' free for Kindle. This action-packed comedy caper sees the indomitable Maureen holidaying in the famous European city. Precious little goes right from the very start and, when she meets a stranger who latches onto her, it only gets worse! The story is the first in the Maureen series of eBooks but it works perfectly as a stand-alone tale. Don't own a Kindle? You can still read the book using the free Kindle reading app.
